Weekly Update #2
Last week our family embarked on a new pilot project, creating a multi-track music recording from three bases - our master studio in Tucson, Arizona, our daughter Rosie & her husband James' satellite studio in Okcheon, South Korea, and our daughter Sonja & her husband Eboy's satellite studio in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo.
John Lennon famously said that life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. He put the saying in a song, but the saying predates him. I don't think anyone is quite sure who first said it. But this week life happened to us.
Patches, Christmas 2018
Last night we took our dog Patches to the emergency veterinary hospital. We did not bring her back home. She was an exceptionally sweet little dog. Everyone in the family is mourning her, especially Sonja, who was Patches' most favorite human in the world. So please be understanding if this weekly update looks more like a tribute to a sweet little dog.

Left to right in the photo above are Sonja's husband Eboy, daughter Sonja, son Russell, me, and daughter Rosie. Sonja is holding Jack's leash, I am holding Patches, and Rosie is holding Rocky. Jack and Rocky were both in love with Patches and constantly vied for her attention.
Rocky, Jack, and Patches, amazingly well-behaved for knowing they are about to go for a walk.
In South Korea, the novel coronavirus exploded this week from 51 cases to over 1,100. Rosie and James both teach at university and both of their universities have cancelled classes for the next two weeks. The government is telling people to stay home. So Rosie and James are at home gardening, making pottery, and practicing music.
Sonja was visiting Rosie and James in Korea (hence the videos of them working out a key for the song last week), but she flew back home right before the coronavirus explosion.
So husband Tony & I created a basic practice track for the kids to practice their parts with and emailed it to them. We recorded piano & guitar together on my iPhone. We're high-tech! The kids are working on their parts and we have been learning the software that is making this trans-Pacific recording possible. It's complicated!
This upcoming week: Tony and Russell and I start laying down instrumental tracks. Stay tuned!
